  2. The US may want to look a bit further ahead as well. It's abundantly clear that Netanyahu's hard-line policy towards the Palestinians has failed spectacularly. Netanyahu bolstered and played Hamas against Fatah in an effort to undermine the latter's efforts to reach a peaceful resolution, i.e. the two-state solution.
