  4. Interestingly, the Democracy Index downgraded the USA to 'flawed democracy' when Trump got elected. Not because of what Trump did -- he hadn't had the chance yet -- but because of the eroding trust in US democratic institutions that landed Trump the presidency. Be that as it may, Trump's subsequent election denial hasn't improved matters. Year by year, the US is doing worse in the Democracy Index.
