I researched this incident for a final project I did last semester, and I submit to you that this was not Taylor's fault. I'm no fan of her music (not in the slightest), but facts are facts. She's just as much a victim of the monopoly as the rest of us. Remember, as far back as 1994 (almost 30 years ago), the grunge band Pearl Jam found it all but impossible to tour without them. It's only gotten worse since then. Maybe Senator Klobuchar will lead some good, old fashioned bipartisan trust-busting endeavor, but I'm not holding my breath.

@russelljordan7688 It is the government's fault, that part is true. However, this was only possible because the government refused to intervene. The merger between Live Nation and Ticketmaster was allowed to proceed back in 2011, and they have had a 70% market share ever since. If the government had gotten involved and blocked the merger, the monopoly wouldn't be as large as it is today (although Ticketmaster's anticompetitive practices, such as exclusive deals with venues, would still effectively monopolize the industry). Republicans in the Roosevelt/Taft era used to recognize that trust-busting stimulates competition, not hinders it; what happened?
