@Kansas Geoff Almost all religion has been responsible for something evil, whether it's human sacrifice, forced genital mutilation of children or adults, or inspired acts of terror (Salem Witch Trials, KKK, Crusades, Spanish conquest, etc.). Can we really say it has benefited humanity when terrorism, shaming and persecution persists to this very day? It's a failed and delusional sense of morality that has no place in modern civilization, period.

Snowrabian Lebanonprincess Dude calm down. I despise all organized religions, not just Islam. If I hated Muslims just for having a different set of beliefs (assuming they aren't contemptible), that would be bigotry. But that's just not the case. I despise religious institutions with political power because they often try to force their false doctrine upon everyone else. And I will not stand for it. Islam gets extra condemnation because of its modern extremist groups that terrorize the Western world. This is just one example. We haven't forgotten 9/11 so quickly. Is it a religion of peace? It's hard to say, but the more this happens the more people start to wake up and realize that at least some religion isn't all it's cracked up to be. It's not a very good image. (In all fairness, the same could be said 70 years ago about the KKK.)

@justaghoulintheworld I slightly disagree. I think it was man's first attempt at answering questions that were beyond scientific observation, and it coincided with a means of controlling people. Either way, it's extremely outdated and the only religion that can be remotely justified to exist is Deism (which isn't actually a "religion" in the traditional sense).

Natural selection isn't "guided" by some external force, it IS a force, just like gravity. Gravity doesn't exist because some deity wants us to stay on this planet, there is scientific reasoning for it (specifically, more dense objects attract less dense objects due to the curvature in spacetime). Natural selection is actually a very simple concept (organisms better adapted to their environment have a better chance of survival and reproducing, thus passing on their genes), but I wouldn't expect a Muslim to understand it. I was overestimating your mental ability, and for that I apologize. A lapse in judgement on my part.

Qu'ran & Sunnah Research the Miller-Urey experiment. It took about 1 billion years for it to occur, but once it finally did that was all it took. That's why I also believe that, statistically speaking, given the vastness of the known universe there is almost certainly life on another celestial body. Whether or not intelligent life exists elsewhere is a separate question.

Since I am not surprised that you don't know what Deism means, I'll explain it to you: Deists believe that the universe was created by God, or a Creator, but do not believe that this Creator has interfered with human beings in any way (including writing laws for us to follow, communicating with us, performing miracles, or sending its "son" go preach its message). However, they do believe that certain rights pre-exist government and no institution of man can take them away. Because Deism no longer exists on the scale it used to, the modern-day equivalent is more like agnosticism and, as non-religious folk, we often call these "human rights." By virtue of being born a human, you afforded rights that all other species do not have. It's a form of speciesism, but it has the same effect.

Qu'ran & Sunnah They are granted inalienable rights in that they were all products of the same Creator. In other words, this "Creator" put the universe into motion and through the laws of physics eventually created intelligent life (us). Therefore, by virtue of being HUMAN we are all considered equal to one another. This is also quite a simple concept, if not a little philosophical. But I wouldn't expect you to understand it if you can't even define "natural selection" correctly.

If you're referring to my opinion on the Bible, it's extremely difficult to believe that everything in the Bible is historically accurate from a scientific perspective. Hence why I'm more than a little skeptical of anything written in religious texts.

Evolution by natural selection has been observed numerous times and has never ONCE been credibly disproven. The only people who disagree with it are Creationists who still hold on to the anachronistic belief that all species were designed by a single Creator. Which sounds more plausible?

Qu'ran & Sunnah Gravitons are not proven to exist. They aren't even theoretical. You aren't representing my argument correctly. You're creating a strawman and attacking that instead. Did I not explain that gravity is a physical force that occurs between two objects because of the curvature in spacetime? That's known as relativity, and was first observed by Albert Einstein in his solar eclipse experiment. That had NOTHING to do with "gravitons," which have NEVER been directly observed by physicists. At least get the theory correct. Again, you are proving that you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about.

Qu'ran & Sunnah You are presuming that the Creator needs to be aware of the existence of mankind for the rights to matter. Fun fact: He doesn't. It does not matter either way what the Creator thinks. What does matter is what the People think, and if they believe that all men have certain rights that pre-existence government, then that is all that is needed. Otherwise, these rights would be dependent upon belief in a Creator that is consciously aware of humanity, which would seem to contradict the First Amendment which says Congress shall make no law respecting the establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.

It replicated conditions that are theorized to have existed early in Earth's history, and used a natural phenomenon (i.e. a lightning strike) to fuse the molecules together. By doing this, they were able to make Carbon compounds capable of sustaining life.

You say you want to learn from the mistakes that were made in Communist countries, but completely disregard the atrocities committed by fascist regimes and the Crusaders, among many others. Your logic is utterly inconsistent. "It's in the past" doesn't work here buddy. We are here today BECAUSE of the past, and if we don't learn from it we are doomed to repeat it.

Perhaps its only benefit is that it gives people a sense of meaning and purpose to their lives (a false sense of meaning to be sure), which is ironically most likely the very reason it was invented. People want to believe that there is more to their existence than what can be observed, particularly as they age or their survival is in jeopardy/not guaranteed (as in most of human history). It fills a metaphysical gap that is almost impossible for philosophy, science and reason alone to satisfy. Personally I don't take issue with this unless it the "believers" try to impose their delusions on others or it influences public policy. In other words, your rights end where others' begin.
