😆😆 This is so true. I'll tell you if I was elected (most likely not under either party), that would be my goal. To reconciliate and find common ground. To use facts and reason and then legislate within the limitations of American law to serve the people I represent. I can count on one hand how many politicians in US government today I think actually try to do that from time to time.

@jaycee2556 I think the OP meant adding more parties into the mix, not taking away a party. I'm a member of the Libertarian party, so I fully support that. I think there are a lot of opinions that go unrepresented in American politics due to the lack of variety; if we had say five or six parties of roughly equal size (for example, the Green Party and the Tea/Constitutional Parties), then we could find more common ground and a lot more could get done. This two-party system will only serve to divide us in the end, as I believe we agree on a lot more than we might think.

@jaycee2556 I think we would do better in 4 or 5 party system because more voices are being represented. Just broadly classifying everyone as either "socially liberal" or "socially conservative" splits the country into two halves; it's what led to the Civil War and I'm worried it might happen again. At least if there was another party involved both sides could find some common ground with that third party.

@jaycee2556 Possibly. I think on some of the major bipartisan efforts you could see that happen. My point however was that a multi-party system would be more democratic, as the people could vote for candidates that more closely align with their views than the two-choice system we have now. It really comes down to priorities. Which is more important to you: the Constitution (Constitution/Tea Party), the environment (Green Party), personal liberty (Libertarian Party), faith (Republican Party), or progression (Democratic Party)? The other issues matter of course, but this way people could vote for the things that matter the most to them, and we can have a system more resembling that of Germany for example. It might also help fight corruption by having multiple independently run and roughly equal parties rather than just two. That's just my personal take on it though.
