We should've taken Sweden's approach. Keep the economy moving but strongly encourage vulnerable populations to isolate themselves. School closures were an appropriate decision because, while children are less susceptible to serious illness, they can theoretically transmit it to their older relatives and legal guardians. But encouraging everyone to stay at home for a virus that has a negligible mortality rate for healthy people was a dumb decision. I have a feeling the phrase "Hindsight is 2020" is about to take on a whole new meaning.

@RP-jy2xv True, but most deaths are occurring in nursing homes. If they take strict measures to keep their population isolated (no visitors), and test employees frequently then we could avoid at least half of all deaths. Shutting everything down will be much more devastating in the long run than if we had taken that kind of swift action from the start.

@Brian-gk2hg Yeah we have too. Last I heard 58% of deaths were in care homes nationwide. That should have been priority #1.

@lcsoliman People who feel sick should absolutely have to stay home. I think this would be a perfect time to mandate that all US companies provide 48 hours paid sick leave, minimum. In California that's already a requirement. No one should have to choose between staying home and quarantining/resting and showing up feeling terrible and spreading it to others. It's just common sense.
