  1. and also aldous huxley's "brave new world," which was written around the same time during the same political atmosphere. i read it when i was 18, so i needed to google a few words, which made it slightly difficult reading, but it was absolutely worth it. brave new world is huxley's response to orwell, in the form of a question. what if people asked for the world of 1984, and what the reasonings and political climates around that particular world state might lead a group of people to willingly allow their society to become a 1984 police state. it's probably an even more important, impactful, and relevant book than 1984, at least in the context of our current society. it's an amazing read, and even if you might need your dictionary to tell you that "viviparous" means breeding sexually rather than asexually, it's worth the time investment. especially during these quarantine times. please read it.
