Agreed with most of his analysis, but Snowden’s revelations are important in slowing momentum toward centralization of power, which is the thesis of Taleb’s essay. He’s literally only in Russia because he doesn’t want to go to jail for the rest of his life. It wasn’t part of his plan. It’s important to realize intelligent people are not omniscient and intelligent points of view can be largely right while containing errors/bad takes.

@Megalomaniakaal Yup. You got me. Made an error there.

Dead on. Singapore’s political support of CCP narratives is also highly indicative of its total non-democratic values and norms. Like some of the emirates, it is allowed within polite society because of its wealth, stability and glamour.

@RedLancerMoto lol Outright called him an idiot and put words in his and an entire group’s mouth. Libertarians are not anti-western democracy. They merely think they’re should be far less regulation on mostly day-to-day things. Seems like he’s never met a real life libertarian in his life. BTW, anyone who has ever heard Snowden speak at length, could tell you he’s not an idiot. He’s also the furthest thing from a libertarian. Ironically, he started off on the center right and joining the marines. So, you can neither peg him as a far leftist or a libertarian. Nor as a traitor.

@SillyMrGoose Yes. I don’t know what happened to my post, but I posted how if you check out the map of non-extradition countries, none even exist in South America anymore and they’re all horrible Middle Eastern and African countries. Beyond that, the US’ interdiction powers are insane. They FORCED the Bolivian presidential plane down in Europe to search for Snowden. So, if they’re willing to violate the diplomatic immunity of a president, how is Snowden supposed to move around? This guy clearly has no clue.

@Samirustem Agreed

@fromthefire4176 He’s been a lot more effective abroad. He gets more respected by the day and it’s likely he will be pardoned at some point, unless MAGA-Q repeals democracy.

@andredunhos4097 This is an unavoidable consequence of freedom that dictatorships use against us. It is literally we cannot do anything about, unless we want to stop holding our leaders to account because it gives ammunition to the enemy.

@quinntinmann Yeah, dude, NATO is soooo scary with exactly zero invasions in the nearly 80 years it has existed. If the US or NATO wanted to attack Russia, it would have done it in the ‘90s when Russia was a complete mess. Russia lost its influence because it let its economy crumble to the size of a medium sized US state. Influence is dependent on GDP and global integration. Not some archaic idea of a Russian empire. Common sense and logic seem to have been melted out of the average modern peasant by social media.

@GlazyrinIlya Clearly, it was a joke. You’re just bad at the internet like Putin. I keep seeing Russians with red, worn down teeth from gnawing on raw turnips and beets. I hope you’re doing better.
