It is sad and unfortunate, but unless they feel the effects of the war, the general population won’t care and nothing will change.

anothaview No. When did I say it was their fault? Many Russians do care, but a majority percentage believe they have cause to invade Ukraine. Sadly, the US and EU do share part of the blame. In a perfect world, every country would be free to choose their own destiny. But it’s not a perfect world and Russia made it clear in 2008 if that the West persisted in trying to make Ukraine a NATO country they would do this. They did the same in Georgia after all. I can’t imagine the US letting Russia setup military bases in Mexico or Canada. So, it’s no surprise Putin felt the same. To be clear, he is evil and this invasion is totally immoral. But we should have seen this coming and basically come to the agreement, no Ukraine in NATO while making it clear we would give them military aid if Russia sought to take advantage of that, which I don’t think they would have if they had as long as they knew Ukraine would never enter NATO.

@jsb1585 Many care. However, it is a false narrative that some outlets are pushing that a majority of Russians are against the invasion. One of my fellow polisci majors spoke Russian and lived there and people would often ask her why the US set up a rebellion in the Ukraine. Obviously they didn’t, but many, many Russians believed they did and agreed with the Crimean takeover. To be clear, Putin’s evil is not the fault of the average citizen, but without immense internal pressure on Putin, there won’t be much incentive for him to make this invasion as short as possible.

@erwin669 Exactly, the US spends millions on every SEAL’s training alone. Less elite soldiers still get hugely expensive and intensive training.
