  1. ​ @oldcynic6964 basically, the KGV design locked in on the 14" guns just a few months before it became clear that the 2nd London Naval Treaty wasn't going to be signed. The few months behind that the US was with the North Carolinas allowed them to shift the design focus from three four-gun turrets with 14" guns to three three-gun turrets with 16" guns, whereas the leading British alternative was three three-gun turrets with the 15"/45 Mark II gun that was under development.
