@andersmusikka even before WW2 navies knew that pitching and rolling on a ship are a thing. What developed was a set of gyroscopes to measure pitch and roll, which then closed the firing circuit when the ship was close enough to an even keel for the firing solution to be valid.

@winghungyuen2726 I thought they were numbered going around the ship in a particular direction, so 51, 52, 53 on the bow, then 54 on one side, 55, 56, 57 on the stern, and 58 on the other wing.
