  1. The problem for me is that I want to escape from the tyranny of IC complexity and attendant maintenance. I will likely buy an EV when the time for replacement comes. Will a move by large numbers require improvement of the electrical grids? Probably but hasn't that been postponed long enough? Now some generation plants exist just to "balance" loads on the system. When large numbers of EVs are plugged in and with the ability of current to flow in both directions, balancing supply and demand may become much easier negating the need for some generation on the periphery. I've probably been around a lot longer than you and did my own car maintenance/repairs since days of distributors, points, condensers, timing lights, etc. There were Model A's in town when I was little. I would rather some of my considerable tax dollars go to encouraging the development of new industries rather than subsidizing the petroleum racket. Yes, I own interests in their businesses, pipelines, etc. and help to pay their thousands of lobbyists. But it's the only way I can recoup some of what is picked from my pocket.
