@Mrinebriation It it's not recognized, how do assets get separated in the event of a split? How do they get insured? Who makes end of life decisions?

@Mrinebriation Some people actually do. But aside from that, let's just say that polygamists are probably on the fringe with most of their behaviors as it is. Nevertheless, "deserve" has nothing to do with this. I'm talking about asset-splitting judgments are made. And yes, laws are actually made to protect the stupid. But most of all, why are you so hellbent on people not splitting up assets when they divorce? What, did your ex rake you over the coals?

@timeoftroubles So what? They got time to write bullshit parking tickets & hassle people for smoking weed. Let them earn the money they steal from us.

@Mrinebriation What you think doesn't matter. What matters is what's been set by precedents up to this point. Assets get split. They don't always force things into liquidation. Who paid most is a mitigating factor but it's of less consequence than you may think. If I buy a house for my wife & me then we split up, it doesn't matter who paid the most because it falls into the "common property distribution" category. Any asset split must be equitable. (cont'd)

@Mrinebriation (cont'd II) If I may, I'll present a scenario. A husband has a wife who's a homemaker. She's never established a line of credit. When divorce rolls around after 20yrs of marriage. It's not realistic to just sell the house & split the equity because she can't just up & buy another house. The judge is considering these things while he's taking a look at precedents AND looking at his own, prior rulings. Do you understand what I'm driving at?

This is 1 of those cases that I don't like being right. I can imagine this kinda shit is awful for the kids too. But then again, some kids are already screwed. In the end, "mercy", is I like to call it, allows for just as much nonsense to happen is it lets good things happen. Maybe one day we humans will get our shit together & we won't need stupid laws. But right now, we gotta write laws to protect us from those who'd marginalize us 'cause we're a li'l different than the "norm".

I hear what you're saying too. Splitting up assets in the case of a divorce means a nightmare. Also, I think communal marriage presupposes that the the wives (in a case like this) are not only married to the husband but also to the each other. I can't BEGIN to fathom how daunting it'd be to split up assets then. But the way I see it, we have to deal with all the BS or none of it. You & I might differ in opinions on something but that doesn't mean we can cherrypick which legislation we prefer.
