  2.  @stephen4121  Because one of Stalin’s famous misjudgements, the Soviets thought that the Germans would go for Moscow again, so they placed the bulk of their most powerful forces in front of Moscow. So the Germans advanced through weaker Soviet forces in 1942 and when winter came, and their progress stalled, Stalin allowed the strong forces that were set aside for defense of Moscow to be used in an offensive at Stalingrad. So the Red Army built up an overwhelming superiority in all kinds of military material before the Stalingrad offensive. I think its widely recognised the winter had a huge inpact on the Germans, and that they where not equipped for winter warfare. And allways remember russia would have been with then Nazis , had it not been for Hitler changing his mind and attacked russia !
