Most of our assets are in the USA in the form of CD's (銀行の定期) and annuities (複数年保証の年金) , which are like CD's from the insurance companies, and US treasury bonds (国債). Foreigners like yourself can buy these products, but it is a little harder than for a US citizen. You can research this yourself and you can also call Fidelity Investments in Tokyo. They can provide detailed guidance .The returns are usually over 4% yearly, sometimes above 5% a year. The point is that these types of investments are stable and insured. The return is much higher than you get in Japan.
