Disagree. If putin just wanted the minerals all he had to do was recognise/annex the occupied donbas territory, which he did, as thats where the minerals were. And then send his military in to control the front line. But he didnt though. He went for a complete regime change instead. There is documented propaganda evidence early on that it was done for imperial reasons. It wont let me put the link on here but if you google "petr akopov article" you can find the link to an article by him that was released early in error. It got taken down quickly but not before it got archived. It talks of a "greater russian world". The "greater russians", the belorussians and their so called "little russians" of ukraine being reunited once again creating a new version of the old soviet/russian empire that would once again rival the west as a true superpower. Putin had been trying for this politically through his puppet yanukovych for 10 odd years right up to maidan. When that failed he took the military route.
