  1. British mindset? Empire is long gone and so with it any kind of authoritarian or "were in charge" mindset. We left the EU for democratic purposes. The EU has a democratic deficit. Elected meps just rubberstamp unelected commissioners laws and policies through. Mainly schengen/no immigration control was the main EU issue for many brits in voting for brexit. There was no way for their elected meps to fix it it for them..

And that you leave out that a lot of that ukranian corruption left with the pro russian oligarchs and yanukovych when they fled for russia after maidan in 2014. And that you left out that poroshenko and zelensky ran on anti corruption tickets in the two ukranian elections since. As they knew that to gain access to the EU and NATO it would need to be sorted. Unfortunately some moron called putin with delusions of imperial grandeur prevented them from achieving their goal.

  5. Western media has numerous media outlets all with different political viewpoints from left/centre to right. So you have checks and balances so the people can then decide for themselves on the truth. Thats not propaganda,. Whereas putins propaganda is state funded and opposition views are suppressed by law. Opposition figures are also regularly imprisoned/murdered. Navalny/nemtsov amongst many. And yes, for taking putins propaganda at face value and spouting his lying bollox that does make you a troll.

Why would ukranian people want to kill their own people? When the only people killing ukranians have been russians. Thats my opinion on why russia did it.   10. Perhaps you could tell us then why the ukranians would want to blow the dam and cause a flood so killing their own people? The only civilians dying in this invasion are ukranians. The only villages, towns and cities being flattened are ukranian. The only territory being annexed is ukranian. The only war crimes being committed are being committed against ukranians. This is just another. I would love to know the alternative viewpoint you seek?

  11. The yanukovych presidency was authoritarian enough for the ukranian people to rise up against it just like they did in 2004 wih the orange revolution . When it was found by ukraines highest court that he had corrupted the election result. So did victoria nuland influence that uprising as well? Did putin do far worse and influence yanukovych to order his special police to open fire on unarmed demonstrators killing 120 and wounding thousands at maidan? If a countries people want to remove its corrupt and authoritarian government then that is a matter for them. Its nobody elses business. If a country wants to join one union over another its for them to decide. If one country wants a better way of life than another thats for them to decide. Thats what an independant sovereign state means to civilised people. Thats why civiised countries dont invade and annex others territory just because it doesnt fit with their imperialistic agenda. Also NATO never had a treaty with the ussr/russia. Also NATO has never invaded and annexed territory like putins russia has. NATO is at its heart a defensive alliance. It has intervened only to prevent genocide and fight terrorism. It hasnt intervened militarily in ukraine because of the nuclear armageddon threat. Which putin knows and is using.

  13. Just a bit of history about ukraine, pre maidan. 80 odd years of russification has to be taken into account. From stalin times through the soviet era up to 1991. Thats why russian culture/language etc was and still is to a degree, ingrained into ukranian culture. In 1991 ukraine voted 92% to leave the union with russia. All the oblasts and regions voted in favour including crimea and the donbas region. Ukraine then followed a similar route as yeltsins russia with attempts at fast tracking democracy and western style capitalism. The lack of legal accountability though ended up with oligarch corruption in both countries. Putin then took over around 2000 in russia. He, amongst many ex soviet hardliners, never recognised that 1991 vote and so set out to return a form of russian domination on all of its former soviet states that had left during the break up of the ussr. Putins attempts in ukraine began politically with yanukovych in the elections of 2004. His state funded tv media had begun its propaganda methods, not only in russia, but in all the border areas of its former soviet states, including ukraine. Pro russian olgarchs were also financing and involved in it all too. Yanukovych won the 2004 election but claims of corruption created a massive demonstration in kiev. The orange revolution as it became known then forced a rerun of the election after ukraines highest court ruled that there was indeed electoral corruption. His "poisoned" opponent victor yushchenko winning the rerun comfortably. He was pro west/democracy and in power for 5 years up till 2010. Attempted to join NATO along with georgia, but germany and france vetoed their application as they wanted a more economically friendly relationship with putin instead. He also began preliminary negotiations for ukraine to join the EU. In 2010 yanukovych won a close run election that was deemed fair by international observers. His 3 years saw the NATO bid scrapped altogether. Increasing oppression of his political opponents. The constitution changed to help that oppression. The jailing of his main political opponent yulia tymoshenko. And the most fateful decision of all to scrap the proposed union with the EU for one with the very country the people voted 92% to leave in 1991. So not surprisingly the ukranian people werent having any of that so another revolution started late in 2013. This time called the revolution of dignity or maidan. It began peacefully at first but as the police became more hardline in their approach the numbers demonstrating and the violence grew. Yanukovych, as you would expect from a putin clone, sent in his special police berkut unit to open fire on unarmed demonstrators. 120 died with thousands injured. No way could he survive that bloodbath. He fled, and the folowing morning the duma reformed and voted to strip him of his power and arranged a new election which petro poroshenko later won. The constitution was reinstated and tymoshenko released. Evidence was also found of voting corruption in his abandoned palace casting doubt on his earlier election win. Since Maidan putin has adopted a much more extreme military approach to achieve that original objective. Culminating in february 22 last year. Putin is 100% at fault for this conflict! Period! You can then become a nobody in a nation of nobodies again just doing as your master putin bids. Some bulgarians seem to like bowing to dictators and tyrants. First hitler and now putin. As for NATO most ex soviet states were shit scared of being invaded and reoccupied by russia again. The last 16 months prove they were right to be so. Thats why they joined NATO.
