  1. Maher is one of those smart guys who gets blinded by how smart he is. He's usually too busy being impressed with his own cleverness to notice when he's missing the point. But he's not stupid so sometimes he does catch on eventually.

PHeMoX I don't disagree with most of what you said there, but my point was that smart people often fall into the trap of assuming that their opinion must be right because they're smart, even when they're just following a narrative. They're so accustomed to being the smartest person in the room, they can have a tendency to not really question their own assumptions. Bill Maher's wrong, not dumb.
