Even after ramming had ceased to be a significant part of battle for capital ships, destroyers continued to frequently find themselves in situations where ramming was a good idea, such as battles with surfaced submarines (of which there were lots and lots in both World Wars) or extreme-short-range actions that could get too close for even torpedoes to be useful and that often involved much larger warships that a destroyer's guns had no realistic chance of disabling (Jutland-at-night, Dover Straits, Glowworm/Hipper, 1st and 2nd Narvik and possibly 3rd as well, Friday the 13th...). Why weren't destroyers of the World Wars equipped with ram bows to give them a greater advantage when ramming the enemy (especially given that ramming an enemy ship without having the advantage of a ram bow could easily wreck the destroyer in the process, as Glowworm and Borie could attest)?
