I have family in Sacramento. My friends and I call it sucktown. Very overpriced, tons of traffic, crazy drivers, lots of homelessness, high crime, oppressive heat in the summer and tule fog in the winter...and those are the plusses! The rivers are okay, East Sac, Midtown and the South Land Park area have beautiful neighborhoods and a variety of eateries. But it's unaffordable. Not worth living there, in my opinion. Ocean Beach is the closest for an actual ocean but good luck trying to get there in under two hours.

@OneJame we got a whole lot in Tahoe. Even prior to the pandemic the influx of tech workers from the Bay Area was making housing more and more difficult for locals. Also, many of the places were being used as short-term rentals (e.g., airbnb). It has really changed the vibe at the lake. There was a time that two of could afford a beautiful 2 bed/2 bath in Zephyr Heights. Wraparound deck with panoramic lake views. By the time I moved from Tahoe, my only lake view was from my office, and I was renting a bedroom in a friend's house.
