  5. Isaiah 53 doesn't talk about Jesus. The gospel writers, none of whom were Jews, made up a new interpretation of Isaiah. The author of Isaiah says over and over again the suffering servant is Israel itself, not the messiah. The only way to interpret 53 as Jesus is to read nothing BUT 53 out of Isaiah. LOL

These are speeches that Isaiah was giving to the Israelites and their leaders. It was never meant to be read as a book 2,500 years later. He is telling them that THEY have had collectively many trials in the past and will suffer more in the future as a people together. But do not lose hope because God will never abandon you. As in most of the OT the author used the image of a group of people and a single person interchangeably.

  15. By the way, you didn't read the Hebrew version of Isaiah 9:6. You read the Greek version. The Hebrew version reads: כי־ילד ילד־לנו בן נתן־לנו ותהי המשרה על־שכמו ויקרא שמו פלא יוֹעץ אל גבור אביעד שר־שלום "Because a child has been born to us; a son has been given to us; and the dominion shall be upon His shoulder, and His name is called Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace." Note the words "has been" born, already, because Isaiah was trying to offer hope in the lives of the people he was addressing, not people centuries in the future.

  21. King Solomon was a minor king in the area of what is now Israel, to the extent he existed as a real person at all. His rule was so tenuous that even in the Bible his kingdom does not outlast his son. He ruled over a country so poor in architecture that he has to call in help from outside to build the First Temple. To call him the richest person in history, is just laughable.

In fact his father David really came out of the nomadic lifestyle, which is why the Bible constantly discusses tents. It's what they knew before settling down in the city of Jerusalem.

  24.  @lxportugal9343  That idea is also not historical. For instance Ramses II had around 50 sons and roughly 53 daughters. Pharaoh made no distinction between legitimate or illegitimate children. There was no palace for David to live in. Jerusalem was a Canaanite city before it became his capital but the City of David architecture was more akin to what archaeologists consider a motte and bailey style, if you are familiar with that terminology. The population of Jerusalem is estimated to have been no more than 2,000 or so people then.

It was written by him, or purports to represent his feelings in his darkest hours but has a triumphal ending as he will defeat the enemies of Israel. The pierced part is a mistranslation of the Hebrew which actually states: "For dogs have encompassed me; a company of evildoers have enclosed me; like a lion, they are at my hands and my feet." The writers of the Gospels attempted to link Jesus to David by using his words, which clearly do not apply. For instance: "Many bulls surround me; strong bulls of Bashan encircle me. 13 Roaring lions that tear their prey open their mouths wide against me. Bashan was an area encompassing today's Golan Heights, a battleground between the Israelite kings and their northern neighbors for centuries. So it makes perfect sense in the life and speech of David but has no part at all in the life of Jesus.

  36.  @SOBEIT32AD  Hanukkah was not celebrated at the Temple because the priests were the enemies of the Hasmoneans. It's the same reason that Maccabees isn't in the Jewish canon of books. The Hasmonean dynasty came from the Maccabees. How can you not know that? Hanukkah was a secular holiday which was probably celebrated in local synagogues, though there were no synagogues in Galilee.

  43. You are very correct. The Book of Isaiah was not written by Isaiah. It's a record, how accurate we don't know, of the speeches that Isaiah gave to the Israelite leaders and people. Prophets never wrote books, because the common people couldn't read them and the leaders wouldn't read them.
