  1. I think this would work best with a contingent of marines, along with a few deck guns for larger targets. The Navy probably didn't recognize the intermediate value. I'm sure you would want some trained specialists to operate this, which is also probably why it was not a commercial success. Great idea though, and indeed, that idea is still in use today with the electric Gatling guns.
