  15. @Kulak Lars doesn’t know what the fuck he’s talking about. There are a couple war movies out there which are literally just documentaries with some framing. Restrepo is one. The candid combat and real deaths are significantly less graphic than you would expect. I know there are a few more, I know for sure there’s one in that was filmed authentically in Italy at the very end of World War II and features people being killed and rotting corpses for real. Real war is unlike the media product. Gore and violence are usually exaggerated for the sake of giving a good visual in depictions. Given things like bullet impacts which are basically unnoticeable in real life get exaggerated for the camera with a little pack of explosives and sometimes a thing of fake blood to create that juicy effect. Just watch any authentic all bad footage or even better yet a raw police shooting and you’ll see gunshots are not very dramatic at all. A properly fully realistic war movie shot to most of our dramatic conventions would be basically unwatchable. The closest I can think of is Jarhead which doesn’t feature even any realized combat. The weirdest shock going from a consumer of media to witness of combat was how death is rarely as depicted. Death through organized violence is a quick and casual. Very few people get time for a dramatic three minute death monologue where tearfully they make someone hold their hand and promise to take care of their little brother for them. And combat you don’t have time to comfort the dying or have a dramatic mental breakdown, you’re pumped full of adrenaline and too busy doing your job. The main emotional impact comes after when you finally have a the time and safety to cognitively process what you experienced; you don’t think about it in the moment because you’re preoccupied. And screaming and yelling after being wounded is less common than you would think; a lot of people are in shock or fainted when they got hit or they’ve already died. If they have chest wounds does a strong possibility their lungs are compromised so they can’t get the air pressure needed to make significant noise.
