  1. The dark secret deal was that the government would not impede high-tech's ability to make money by defending free market practices, but you had to be a woke liberal on social issues. Also, big tech had to do a lot of philanthropy. But this deal fell apart in the '90's. Capitalists were all evil to the newer Democrats, who wanted bigger government programs and creeping socialism.
