@nik6759 Speak for yourself. The Muscovites are NOT the heirs of the Kievan Rus. Coins from that era make it pretty clear: the Trident in the south, and the Horse of the Golden Horde in the North on the coins of Moscow.

@irresistablejewel Yeah, those referendums are just as legitimate as Saddam's election in 2002 or the Kim Dynasty in North Korea. What was it that Stalin said? "It is WHO counts the votes that matters"? The fact that NOBODY, not even India nor Red China consider them legitimate shows you have lost the plot.

@nik6759 Still doesn't change the fact that all of the claims of Moscow over Ukraine are complete fabrications. Ukrainians themselves reject Putin's arguments that they are not a separate ethnicity, one that they even rejected during the Tsarist era.

@nik6759 Kiev predates the Muscovites. And only propagandists claim that Kievan Rus was part of the Russian state. Especially considering that much of the area was once part of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. Again, you are parroting the Potemkin Village claims of Cathrine the Great.

@nik6759 Wrong again dude. There are MANY Slavic groups. And all of them have been turned against Putin and the Kremlin BECAUSE of the ethno-nationalistic chauvinism of the Muscovites. Ukrainian culture is just as distinctly separate from Russian as Serbians, Slovaks, Czechs, Croats, Macedonians, and Belarusians are from each other.

@nik6759 You are not a specialist either. In fact, you're using the logical fallacy of "appeal to authority" when you invoke specialists. The Ukrainians people have ALWAYS been distinct from Russians. If they weren't then the USSR would never have allowed Ukraine to be a separate Soviet. Under the rules of the Soviet Constitution, in order to be a separate Soviet Republic, it has to have a simple ethnic Majority. Hence why Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Georgia, Tajikistan, Armenia, Kyrgyzstan, and Moldova were all distinct instead of simply "Autonomous Oblasts" of the Russian Soviet.
