@robertmaybeth3434 Fighting Jihadis is not the same as fighting a near-peer adversary. How much of the Army's experience fighting the Moors in the Philippines was actually useful in the trenches of WW1? To the Original Poster: I tend to agree. Ukraine is going to have a battle tested military who had to adapt on the fly to less than ideal conditions. THAT is the kind of knowledge that should be passed onto the next generation, not the over-reliance on traditional NATO advantages of air power, numbers, and technology.

@cactuslietuva Depends on the context. If the triple amputee can still deliver a beatdown, what does that tell you about how hardcore he will make them? You can be a negative Nancy or you can look at the positive side. It is clear you don't understand the warrior ethos. Most hold their wounded and disabled in high esteem as having paid the price for the nation's badassery.

@xhagast That was exactly why the M1911 was developed as I was mentioning in my previous posts. Jihadis high as a kite on drugs don't feel bullets. Police engaging with drug crime see the same thing.

@JKK_85 That is some very strong vodka you are drinking. The Soviet Red Army was in full retreat until August of 1942. That is over two years getting their clocks cleaned by the Wehrmacht. And the ONLY reason why they were stopped is because Hitler sabotaged his own forces by making the southern force pull double duty reinforcing the Central Force AFTER they had already been committed. You clearly have zero understanding of the war, instead only parroting "Great Patriotic War" textbooks from the USSR, not an objective analysis. Even West Point textbook author Brigadier Vincent j. Esposito acknowledges the competency of the German military before Hitler's ego sent the whole thing into a tailspin.

@nathanhollingsworth413 You are talking about the equipment, I am talking about the tactics and strategy. The M1911 developed for fighting the Moros was standard issue until the late 90s when the DoD decided that 9mm was better. Dumb choice considering that the reasons why M1911 was because jihadis were amped up on narcotics, something that would be repeated in Afghanistan.

@robertmaybeth3434 I think it was stopped with the sonar dome. That is actually the most expensive part of the boat. And yes, Kilo-class subs are boats, not ships. The Typhoon sub is a ship, as was the Kursk.

You are just looking at one number and not the whole picture. For example, every Mayday Parade in the USSR for 30 years after WW2 had American made trucks towing their artillery pieces.

@JKK_85 Don't conflate your worthless opinion with objective fact. The two are not the same. While a lot of mistakes were made by the German High command, it didn't really become a problem until they reached the gates of Stalingrad. Your problem is that you are engaging in the Historian's Fallacy. Hindsight is 20/20 and it is easy to claim something was a given after the fact.

@nathanhollingsworth413 The .45 has stopping power, which is what was needed when you mortally wound an adversary, but he keeps coming at you. With the 9mm, he may have just enough left in him to kill you before he expires. .45 buys you enough time for him to die.

We in the west have enjoyed the comforts of a peacetime military. They fully expect to return to the fight and so are not there to piss around.

You are talking about a luxury that comes after the war ends. Right now, they need everything and anything they can get. They can worry about standardization when their equipment is not being shot at and destroyed by the Russians.

Germany does have a military tradition that it should be proud of. Sadly, in the wake of WW2, it seems German political leaders have chosen to piss on the legacy of Prussian greatness. The Kreigsmarine has NOTHING to be ashamed of. The U-boat fleet in particular produced men of honor and valor such as Gunther Prien, the Bull of Scapa Flow.

@JKK_85 Keep dreaming. The Germans were only stopped at Stalingrad which started in August of 1942, almost a year after the US had joined the war. Germany was FAR from defeated at that point. And to the Original Poster: Almost one year of supplies running to Murmansk and Arkhangelsk before Stalingrad kind of demolishes your claim.

The Mustang Officer is the greatest treasure that Western Militaries have in their inventory. Sadly, not enough of them rise to the top levels where they are really needed. Too many of the Academy Ring dominate and it shows in the revelation of the West's UNPREPARED state revealed by this war.
