So what is the alternative? So long as oil is traded in USD, you are never going to get rid of it as the fiat world currency.

@lostbutfreesoul Part of the problem is that for almost a century the US department of the Interior forbade ANY burning in California, including the seasonal ones that use to occur every year. This resulted in the tinderbox situation that they are experiencing now. It took the Sequoias and Redwoods not producing a single new tree for decades to open people's eyes to the necessity of regular burns.

Short answer: yes. They rarely bother to look into the long-term ramifications of their proposals. And most of them are anti-nuclear which is the only viable cheap energy to achieve their claimed goals.

PWA has some great jokes about the EMU shadow government down under. And the Laser Kiwis.

Indeed. The Solomons were a major campaign in WW2. With the Japanese based in Rabaul and gunning for both Guadalcanal and Port Mosbey, there was a serious possibility that the Land Down Under would be cut-off from the supply lines to and from the US. That context is critical with regards to China's current ambitions in the region.

@scottryals3191 True that. But at least some cultures ritualized it and attempted to channel it towards more productive ends. It is the Samurai of Japan in particular that I am thinking of, but you would be correct to point out how many chose to become ronin and act all the fool abusing the peasants and merchants.

I think the US already has such an agreement with the Aussies and the Kiwis. But for the most part the US leaves everything south of the Equator to them making such stop-over mostly irrelevant.

@dragosstanciu9866 As George Carlin pointed out, it is all a farce. The people whining about climate change were saying global cooling in the 1970s only to change their tune to global warming in the 1980s. Truth is, they are pushing neo-pagan Gaia worship.

Where is the dividing line between the two? As the smallest Continent, it arguably blurs the line.

If only that were true. Australia is "little brother". And I say that with great affection. The relationship between America and the Land Down under is closer than the much talked about "special" relationship between the US and UK. In EVERY war the US has engaged in, Australia has ALWAYS been there watching our six.

@davidtaylor351 Yeah, it is just a shame that MacArthur was such a prick that he didn't let the Aussies and Kiwis form parts of the vanguard during many of those battles. In particular, had Operations Coronet and Olympic been carried out, they would only have succeeded with the critical participation of Commonwealth troops. As Erwin Rommel said, if he was to take hell, he would use to Aussies to capture it, and the Kiwis to hold it.

@somethingelse9535 That is the logical thought process, but those who often start wars rarely use logical reasoning. They often think it is simply easier to conquer and steal by force than it is to trade. Just look at Russia's actions in its former colonies (namely the Central Asian States)
