@jdw-616 You are assuming Putin's nukes don't detonate in the silo like they did on K-129 instead of launching like they are supposed to. Considering the state of both the Moskva and the Admiral Kuznetsov, I seriously doubt the competency of the Russian Nuclear Forces. Also, you trying to use scripture to push a political message is a blasphemy. It is exactly what the Carpenter of Nazareth and the Baptizer on the Jordan both critizised when they spoke of the corrupt bread of Caiaphas and Herod Antipas. "But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father." -Matthew 24:36

@jdw-616 Many wiser men than you have tried to predict the end of days. They ALL failed. You are just as foolish if you think you know the hour of judgement. It will occur when you least expect it, so why are you trying to use fear of it to compel others? THAT is where you have blasphemed.

@TK199999 If it worked so well, why did almost every power except the US blatantly violate it? In particular, both the Germans and the Japanese created Heavy cruisers (Admiral Hipper, and Mogami respectively) with light cruiser guns that could be easily retrofitted with bigger ones so as to get around the limits? Then you have the fact that the Japanese absolutely lied about the true displacement of their capital ships. In particular, the true displacement of their battleships was 50% greater than what they claimed. Also, it wasn't Dolittle, it was Billy Mitchell who demonstrated the feasibility of air power over capital ships. Dolittle was the Lt. Colonel who led the Tokyo Raid from the deck of the USS Hornet. Don't try lecturing me on military history when you can't even get your basic facts correct.

Indeed. The Soviet officers who chose to de-escalate deserve all the praise for their coolness under fire and level-headed judgement of the situation. Vasily Arkhipov and Stanislav Petrov both deserve recognition for their actions in preventing a nuclear arms exchange. Yes, as an American I CAN praise Soviet Officers who acted with professionalism and honor.

@jdw-616 Yeah, as Dana Louche points out, the devil can quote scripture too. You using religious text to make an argument doesn't give you the moral high ground, it just proves you have to use people's faith against them to create legitimacy for yourself. I also find it interesting that you chose to deflect into a religious argument rather than debate the merits of the original point. You have clearly lost the plot and are hijacking this threat for your own self-aggrandizement. "It would be better for him to have a millstone hung around his neck and to be thrown into the sea than to cause one of these little ones to stumble." -Luke 17:2

The nuclear control treaties are no different than the Washington Naval treaty attempting to limit the number of battleships. And the Washington Naval treaty failed spectacularly in attempting to prevent WW2.

They worked on Japan because they were new and provided a capability nobody else enjoyed. That is not the case now.

And that assumes that they don't detonate in the silo like they did on K-129 instead of launch as they are supposed to do. The issues regarding the Admiral Kuznetsov and Moskva casts serious doubt on the competency of the Russian Nuclear Forces.

Indeed. Loose nukes in the hands of a rouge actor is a far more terrifying threat than a hundred thousand nukes in the arsenal of a military.
3
And what is to say that the oligarchs in charge of maintaining his nukes didn't do the same? The Moskva and Admiral Kuznetsov makes me question the readiness of Russian nuclear weapons (Bent Spear/Dull Sword).

@gugulethuzangwa8358 He threatened nukes if the West supplied Ukraine with HIMARS and failed to deliver on that threat. He is bluff and bluster at this point.

That is the very question I have been asking since the sinking of the Moskva. Between the Black Seas Flagship and the Admiral Kuznetsov, I wonder if the nukes will detonate in the silo like they did on K-129.

@piotr2951 Say the guy with an obviously Russian name for his account handle. Pot meet kettle. Now how about you actually debate the merits rather than resort to guttersniping. PS, my ancestry is Lorraine German, from the province of Alsace. which is now French “I always cheer up immensely if an attack is particularly wounding because I think, well, if they attack one personally, it means they have not a single political argument left.” ― Margaret Thatcher

@faelirra So, "Trust me bro"? Yeah, that doesn't give me confidence. Do keep in mind that Prigozhin had Putin's full interest, faith and confidence as you describe. How did that work out when it came to the field rations troops were supposed to be supplied with?

Humans are creatures of conflict. We thrive in adversity and stagnate in periods of absolute harmony and cohesion. It is why when all of our needs are met, we STILL find trivial reasons to fight.

@robderich8533 "Ability to cooperate"? Eusocial creatures include bees and ant colonies. One could argue that they display MORE altruistic and cooperative behavior than humans. But humans are NOT insects in a colony as socialists would have us be. Your argument is fundamentally flawed.
