Agreed. If they can improve their medical system and then invest in water purification and sanitation so that people can drink water straight from the tap, then tourism becomes a VERY viable option for economic diversification.

I hope they are smart and use the revenues to first build that hydro-electric dam and then upgrade their medical system. They should then follow that up with sanitation and water purification so as to get a stranglehold on typical tropical diseases such as Malaria, Yellow Fever, Dysentery, Typhoid, and encephalitis. Once the water is safe to drink from the tap, then opening their beaches to tourism becomes a real viability, thereby diversifying their economy. There is great potential for Guyana to become the Singapore of South America.

China is unreliable and treacherous as an ally, just ask the Solomons or Sri Lanka. And you would drink the water straight from the river? Who is joking now? @ArawnOfAnnwn Sure, blame the Brits for the Persians and the Arabs fighting each other since antiquity. Blame the Brits for the Arabs finding any pretext to fight among themselves over water, land, or even which Imam is the true successor to the Prophet. About the ONLY thing the Brits are guilty of is ignoring T.E. Lawrence's proposals. Even he knew that dividing the region along tribal lines was no guarantee for peace. The Howeitat and Hashims had plenty enough reasons to fight.
