Legalizing it doesn't solve your problems, it just shuffles the deck chairs around. Trading one set of problems for an entirely new set isn't working the problem, it is an attempt to cover up the problem.

@monkeydank7842 Look at the US states that have already legalized marijuana. Colorado Democrats have already admitted that they made a terrible mistake in legalizing it. In place of incarceration, they have drug rehab which is ironically MORE expensive. Do keep in mind that prior to this, the Department of Corrections was the biggest drug rehabilitation agency.

No, it would not. It simply trades in one set of problems for an entirely new set. Also, the violence would not stop as the cartels will still murder their competition to maintain their monopoly.

@monkeydank7842 Yes, they would. Legalizing it doesn't change that fact. It just makes it easier for them to conduct their business without worrying about the government actively shutting them down.

@monkeydank7842 Bootlegging Alcohol still occurs. The media just doesn't report on it. NASCAR in fact is a direct result of bootleg culture. Eric Garner was killed by police for selling cheap cigarettes across state lines subverting the taxes on then. But the media wanted to only focus on his race, not WHY the police were really busting him up. Then there is the issue about Cuban Cigars. They can be made by Cuban expatriates in Florida, but big tobacco makes a stink about it not being "the real thing" and hence they can't sell or advertise them as Cuban Cigars. Hence the whole thing with smuggling them in from Cuba despite having a legal alternative that is exactly the same thing.

@monkeydank7842 As I said, you don't solve the problems by legalizing, you are simply papering over the underlying problem by creating an entirely new set. The problems society has with Alcohol and Tobacco shows that legalization only creates more problems. Data out of Colorado prove this with regards to marijuana legalization. You haven't made any coherent arguments for legalization. And my points only reinforce that.

That will not solve the problem, it will simply make the government become the biggest drug dealer.

Indeed. Narco-States are active participants in pushing the drugs as the politicians are often on the payroll of the cartels. Mexico better fits that description than Belgium.

That won't solve your problem, it only creates an entirely new set of problems. Furthermore, the drug cartels don't stop literally murdering their competition just because you made it legal.

@tylernorby4939 The devil is in the details. And the details paint a VERY different picture than the claims. Also, you seem to not realize that the local department of corrections is the biggest drug rehabilitation agency. Further, your long prison sentencings are a result of mandatory minimums pushed by the very politicians pushing for legalization. It is a giant grift and you are being played by the people purposely trying to tear down society. This comes straight out of the revolutionary's handbook.

@mmarques2736 Because you falsely believe that by being legal, they would automatically change their "business practices". Bootleggers still flaunt the law despite alcohol being legal. And people are still murdered over moonshine. It will be no different with any legalized controlled substance.

@mmarques2736 I was using the criminality regarding alcohol as an analogy. That you can't understand that shows a lack of critical thinking skills on your part. I was using a frame of reference; one you clearly reject and so there is no point trying to explain something to someone who refuses to entertain an idea for the sake of argument. I HAVE answered your question, you just don't like the answer because it doesn't comport with your myopic view of the world. "It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it.” ― Aristotle, mentor to Alexander the Great.
