  1. the last flat sided, flat topped vehicles were M113 armoured personnel carriers, mostly donated by USA, although many NATO countries have them, several of them have 50 caliber machine guns mounted on top of them...some have anti tank rocket launcher mounted on top. They are much lighter than tanks and can go anywhere without betting stuck.
