Is the US not provoking China by flying to close to their coastline? What if the tables were turned.

@poulha , it's relative. How far near its territory would a great power countenance a military force? Cuba defied the USA and has paid the price since. Did Cuba do anything to Americans?

@poulha the point is that Great Powers cannot countenance perceived threats near their borders. They will do everything they can to drive the other powers away. That is essentially the Monroe doctrine. I actually think that China is doing everything it can to cause the US to overextend itself thousands of miles away. Power projection across the globe is a costly endeavor that will inevitably lead to decline. John Mearsheimer says that the world is too big to be a global hegemon. A great power can only be a regional hegemon in a multipolar world. We shall see in the next 50 years.
