Basmati is great with Indian food, but it doesn't really work with East- and South East Asian food, where a more sticky consistency is preferred. It also has a different flavor. I love both, but I don't mix them up.

@Erispedia Well, I don't know which part of SEA you're from, but several countries have a rich offering of Indian food, including Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore. They serve it with basmati rice and it's delicious.
