"Japan's failure to atone for its wartime past". This is true, but it seems to me that in East Asian culture, you never apologize for past mistakes. Doing so would be a loss of face, and everybody would much rather simply not bring up the topic. You'll never see an East Asian country apologize for something they did to another country in the past, unless they're forced to. Instead, people try to gloss over the past, maybe by giving some extra generous gifts to show their regret.

@shreeshbhat3971 I don't know. But I do know that Germany has done a lot to make up for their part in WW2, including apologizing. Several times.

@shreeshbhat3971 "Your hypocrisy"? I never made a claim that some countries should apologize while others shouldn't. There is no hypocrisy in what I wrote. If you think there is, please point it out.

@user-ll8dj4kp5m " European not only don't apologise" Belgium has apologized for atrocities in Congo. Generally speaking, I don't think there's any reason to apologize for colonialism as a whole. It's wrong to overtake another country now, but prior to the 20th century, conquest of other territories was considered quite normal, and even just. After all, India's Mughal Empire was founded by foreign conquest. That's just history.

@shreeshbhat3971 "Preaching to rest of the world about human rights and democracy". We do like human rights and democracy, both Western (and European) developments. But even if we preach, other countries don't have to follow our suggestions. At the same time, there's no doubt that we choose our friends based, in part, on their record on human rights and democracy. As for 'returning money and wealth", perhaps that will happen some time in the future, after we have made a full account of all the benefits and downsides of the colonial period.

@shreeshbhat3971 Thanks for expressing your opinion. My opinion differs from yours, no matter how angry and resentful you are. I'm very happy with our political, legal, social and foreign policy set-up. Have a great day! 😊

@shreeshbhat3971 Considering your hostile tone, I see no need to give you any further information. You are clearly only looking for a way to to smear western countries, and perhaps even their citizens. You seem both immature and highly emotional.
