@calmwins Tesla, inc. is a public company and its market value is a direct reflection of its stock price. In other words, individual stock price multiplied by number of stocks = market value/market capitalization. If you owned all Tesla shares and you sold them, you would end up with a certain amount of money. That would be the value of the company at the time of sale. Just like an old refrigerator or a Picasso painting.

@davidtuer5825 I started this thread, so I respond to everybody who respond to me. I feel that's the polite thing to do. All I stated early on is that the actual monetary value of a company is reflected in the share price. The two co-founders interviewed have seen the value of their share of Tesla go up many-fold since the interview was taped. It might go down later. It's really not more complicated than that. And let's try to discuss without insulting each other. Insults are not arguments and they do not further the conversation.

@davidtuer5825 If you buy every single share (incl. founders' shares) in a public company, do you not then own the company? And the price you paid for the shares, does that not indicate the value of the company at the time of purchase? I claim that it does. If you then want to take the company off the market, keep it private, or even shut it down, that is your decision, but what you paid was its value at the time.

@tonywilson4713 Yes, TSLA may never again get as high as it was in the fall of 2021, but it is still 11.5 times higher than when the interview was taped.

@tonywilson4713 TSLA is still bought by many investors. It is currently estimated to be 'bullish' in the short and medium term, and 'bearish' in the long term. But no one can really know how the stock price will develop in the long term.

@StudyTrainAchieve37 "Value went up. Profits are plummeting." But for the shareholder that is irrelevant. The shareholder is concerned with stock value and dividends. Dividends are still pretty good.

@StudyTrainAchieve37 Well, I suppose if we assume that the share price is highly dependent on the popularity of Elon Musk, but I don't think it is. Lots of rich people are highly unpopular: Jeff Bezos, Bill Gates, The Koch brothers (though their company, Koch Industries, is not a listed firm), the Walton family, Mark Zuckerberg. Lots of unpopular rich people. I think stock price is determined by a belief in future earnings, and that is also the consensus belief. Is Tesla at risk of going bankrupt soon? I don't see it, but I'm happy to hear your arguments for why that might be the case.

@juliahopemac "This didn’t age very well did it". I wouldn't say so. Tesla stock is now 7% down since I wrote my comment, but it is still 12 times higher than when the interview was taped, so nothing to cry about (if you were those two guys).

@KingHayabusa384 Well, not quite. TSLA has fallen a lot in recent weeks and months, but it is still ten times higher than when the interview was taped. Come back to me when the stock goes below $22.
