It ended WW2, many more would have died, if the US hadn't dropped the A-Bomb on Hiroshima & Nagasaki. The Japanese would have NEVER surrendered in a 'conventional' war.

The Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan in December 1979. During it's 10 year war, the Soviet Union was responsible for 2 MILLION Afghan civilian deaths. Poppy cultivation has been STOPPED by the Taliban. 'In April 2022, Taliban supreme leader Haibatullah Akhundzada decreed that cultivation of the poppy - from which opium, the key ingredient for the drug heroin can be extracted - was strictly prohibited.'
