@oldguy217 NATO is the most successful military alliance in human history, providing security for almost a billion people. There has not been a single war on NATO soil in over 75 years.

@cash-only-por-favor NATO didn't come to any borders. The number of NATO members is growing because nations ask to be admitted and are accepted if they meet the admission criteria. Russia grows when it breaks international law and sends its tanks across the borders of neighboring states. That's the difference.

You forgot Bulgaria, Estonia, Croatia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia. Every Eastern European democracy has the right to defend itself and each of them thought twice and decided that they did not want to live next to an imperialist dictatorship without protection and took action and applied to become a NATO member.

@cash-only-por-favor Take a look at the international democracy index. The freest democracies in the world are all in Europe. Russia ranks 144th on the index, even behind African regimes such as Niger.

Russia is at the other end of the scale. The average life expectancy in the EU for men is 77 years. In Russia, the official average life expectancy for men in 2022 was 66 years. No figures have been published since the invasion, but thanks to Putin, Russia has probably already reached African levels in this regard.
