You can mention someone's past when they are engaging in similar persuasive hyperbole that got them in trouble in the first place... You can also forgive a past if the current arguments are sound, but it still makes sense to keep everything in context. That's what it means to form an informed opinion. Mentioning a blighted past with respect to publishing bad data when the same dude is here published once again informing the public of "the data" and his "research". It also does not mean that what he's done before extrapolates to all of science forever. If someone plagiarises physics then gives a talk on gravity it doesn't mean that gravity doesn't exist for having once committed fraud in physics. We should always be skeptical, not just when we know of a sketchy history but any time someone says anything we should be in the habit of cross referencing. It's healthy to think for ourselves while being open minded.
