The solve to both the social media feed algorithm and personal privacy concerns with data are one in the same - people's feeds are individually trained for each user, and the user stores and releases that model to the app that makes recommendations voluntarily. We store and curate the algorithms on our devices, with their training formula, and we choose to allow a company access to our models which our devices maintain when we want personal recommendations. We train them, we store them and we release them at will. It really doesn't need to be one model to rule them all with echo chambers of click bait or our cliques of preferred points of view. Companies just don't want to give up that control because they're happy exploiting our data and our attention for profit. Regulation could easily fix all of this.
