  1. We like to forget that the backdrop of all life is the planet, Earth. Earth sets the tone, the parameters of our existence. Earth, presenting a virus, for instance, is a challenge to all or just some lifeforms. Earth is insisting, "Deal with this!" It should be considered a sort of "preparation" for the future, rather than a punishment for the past. Life is the balancing act between "context" and "content"; our environment shapes us even as we shape our environment. We're always striking a balance that preserves our ability to PERSIST IN REALITY. This balance is properly struck on the individual level. It CANNOT be struck at the collective level.
