  1. You're getting closer to the point, hexen: corporations acting at the behest of the government. Congress has explicitly recruited facebook to do its bidding in regard to censorship. This is potentially disastrous. None of these platforms should be in the business of manipulating opinion--and that's what happens when one side is arbitrarily squelched! What happened to the distinction between a publisher and a content creator? A publisher should have no prerogative to even be aware of demographic and political profiles of its customers. This at least keeps the communication channels neutral while the nervous nellies figure out how to save the children from internet words. That's really what this whole election meddling thing was meant to accomplish: get the people under control! These social networks have expanded the audiences of alternative news sources not responsive to government control/influence, which is a huge problem for the govt/official narrative(s). The whole controlled news system was at stake. So they simply extended their umbrella of control over the alternative news sources--they don't have to be destroyed to be marginalized. It might be a brilliant ploy if it wasn't so transparent.
