  1. Are these really "countries"; or are they better understood as "conflict zones"? Is there a "Syrian people"? I don't mean are there people who CLAIM to be "Syrian"; I mean is there a collection of native inhabitants of the geographical region we call, "Syria" that is self-governing over the region of Syria? If so, LEAVE IT TO THEM! Otherwise, LEAVE IT ALONE! It looks to me like a region of tribal conflict...think pre-Columbus America.
