  1. Sounds like boxing strategy: come out fast and hard to get the judges on your side. "Debate" is not the term I would use for the stage show that's offered as the fulfillment of the fourth estate's constitutional "duty". We have to deal with the fundamental reality that EVERYBODY is incompetent and disingenuous! Socially, everybody "rises to the level of their incompetence", the Peter Principle, except I've cast it in a "social" light, while the original research was on "corporate hierarchy". I'm willing to dispute that the same principles are NOT functional and directive in both contexts. The "Debate" side show spectacle is incompetent because the people running the show are; but, it's always been that way, and will always be that way in a capitalist/free environment. Only the State has the resources to ensure competence. As long a people have the freedom to attempt to perform beyond their proven capacity, there will be the "over/under-stepping errors" gumming up the works. The only alternative is state control/prescription. So, you, literally, gotta love it, because the alternative is really unhappy.
