Freedom of speech is rather a new idea. Historically, speaking "truth" was risky, hence, the often-coded texts we find in "occultism". Knowledge was DANGEROUS to possess for its threat to rulership interests. I understand the intent of the title was "government censorship...", but disagree, especially considering the SELF-censorship angle: INHIBITION is a good thing. "Social norms" are often propagated via "censorship", as in "bad words", the expression of which is expected to be inhibited, for example.
