  1. Well, there's "history", and, then, there's what actually happened in the past. "History" is its own "mythology". Consider how difficult it is to understand the period of history in which you live; now, consider doing the same thing, except in a period of history far removed from your own! Such is the historian's endeavor...History is the fiction we believe to be true.
