  1. If I had to bet on the UN, I'd bet they'll draft a bunch of resolutions, proclaim outrage and ... do nothing. Mr. Trump is right to give them the opportunity to man up, but history teaches us that the organization is largely symbolic and in practical terms useless. I think President. Trump is being diplomatic but also shrewd. Backing out of the UN is harder diplomatically than backing out of the Paris Climate Accords, but the principle is the same: There's nothing in it for us, if the UN takes our money but can't or won't defend our interests. He's giving them a chance to do that in the case of No. Korea. If they fail to act decisively to neutralize Kim Jong-un and his Pyongyang regime, he may well withdraw us (wouldn't that send the NPR crowd into a tailspin?), meanwhile doing what I hope he's planning to do anyway–launch a massive surgical strike in concert with Japan and So. Korea to kill Kim Jong-un and his generals and destroy their entire military apparatus, both nuclear and conventional.
