Pretty incredible turnaround for the Korean TV industry. At near collapse when China started boycotting Korean products and stopped buying TV shows. I think they were paying around $300K per episode back then. Netflix (and now other US streamers) have completely changed some of the possible genres with their budgets. A few million per episode is not really expensive compared to US productions. No chance this ever gets made in the past. Only 6 episodes with a large budget for Korean TV would be impossible. Looks like the budget is around $20M. Netflix found this "moneyball" talent play (or you could all it talent arbitrage). They are getting some of the top film people to do extended series with a budget bigger than they could get doing a film (or likely would never get greenlit for a film).

@0xyGen_2.p0 Tell me you nothing about Netflix's business without saying you know nothing about Netflix's business (you literally read a few blurbs about password crackdown). Literally, NFLX continues to be cash flow positive even after the pandemic boom. Any blips up and down on subscriber count will have zero impact on Korean dramas. Korean drama cost is amortized across all countries since it has global appeal. Basically, NFLX is spending most of their Korean subscriber revenue on content, but obviously other countries watch it. They are getting a great ROI on Korean dramas. And, it doesn't matter if NFLX trims some. Add in Disney+, Amazon Prime, Apple and the amount of dollar spend + willingness to push higher on per episode is multiples higher than 2016-17.
