  6.  @sal5604  I could say the same about you. If you don't have any issue about presidents who dodged the draft, why is it so important that a 24-year vet retired from the ARNG? And not everyone wants to both serve in the military and hold a government office. But, if I could guess (since that's all you've been doing about this), he wanted to be able to fully fix on running and winning that office, without the distraction of holding a key position in the Guard and having to spin multiple plates.

He refunds the remainder of the bonus he may have signed for (and, the part I hate, they don't account for taxes that they took out when you first receive it), he goes through the retirement process from the Army, and he leaves.   11.  @sal5604  Your argument is a nothingburger. I'm a 42A (and 35P secondary). I know the game of reenlistment. I reenlisted at 19 years in 2003, and actually got a $15,000 bonus. That was amazing, to get a reenlistment bonus at 19 years in. Only the reenlistment NCO found out bonus eligibility topped out at 24 years of service, so I "only" got $12,000, poor me. (I'll take it).You should ask around first, before showing everyone how ignorant you are.

Man, you ignoramuses have crazy notions of the military. Vance wasn't drafted. He voluntarily enlisted. So did Walz, who put in 24 years. I had a CSM who transferred into my reserve unit. Our rotation to deploy came up. He surprisingly transferred out with only a year on his assignment. You're ignoring the part where he had misgivings about the whole Operation Iraqi Freedom, which turned out to be a lie. You're ignoring the part where he was running for the Senate and retired to prevent any Hatch Act conflicts. You're ignoring those facts because you don't understand them. It's sad that you get to vote. So, tell me, do you serve? Have you ever served?
