@mmboiler10 Russia has always been a borderline 3rd world country, I agree b/c they're poor, and the reason they're poor is b/c their budget is invested in the military, which is where they're actually on par w/the rest of the world. Ukr, however, is not even 3rd world, they're 6th world. They're zilch. They would've been better off staying w/Russia and taking orders from them as before. At least, they would be alive.

@wisdomsleuth77777 Pretty sure there are new Naz-i-s in many countries but in Ukr, there are also old Naz-i-s. In Ww2, Ukr fell to Germany and locals rejoiced and cooperated. I guess I can understand in part at least, they hated the Russians more than the Germans, I guess.

@msimon6808 Maybe things have since changed, but when I lived in Moscow, it was all controlled by Russia, Moscow made decisions for the satellites and outsourced accordingly. At that time anyway, Ukr was designated as an agricultural zone. The Baltic states had a bit more expertise in electronics, like making TV's etc. Maybe now they got ppl from other countries to work for them, not sure though. They're very poor, how much can they pay?. I know they tried to buy weapons from Israel but Israel wasn't eager to sell them either b/c they're enemies of Israel. But one way or the other, it seems like in the current conflict, they have no chance against Russia. Just my 2 bucks here.

Ukr has no chance against Russia. Ukr has always been Russia's backwater province, no more. They really have nothing of their own, Moscow provided everything and controlled everything. I think the longer the war goes on, the more Ukr ppl will die but they'll never win. All the sacrifices are in vain. But guessing the Ukr gov doesn't think so. They're like Hama$, the more the merrier. They're forgetting though that Russia is no Israel, there will be no pressure on it to stop the war. They'll go on until the end, until Ukr is no more. Just my 2 bucks here.

@11Joo11XD Why would the EU need Ukr? It's not even a country. It's a backwater Russian province that has nothing of its own. They'll have to invest tons of money w/o getting anything in return.

@11Joo11XD Oh I see, but I think the EU can get their minerals anyway by buying them and w/o taking Ukr into the EU as a member. By taking them in, the EU would undertake certain responsibilities for them but Ukr is such a dud, would it be worth it?

It tells me that there is peacetime vs wartime strength. FDR ordered mobilization after Pearl Harbor despite the standing army. Israel ordered the mobilization of reserves despite the standing army. It tells me this is how it's done I believe. I don't know, I am no longer in Russia and never been in the Russian army in the first place so not sure how they operate but logically speaking it's like that. Russia beat the living cr-a-p out of the Germans after almost entire Europe fell to them. Ukr is basically a bunch of nothings.

@mmboiler10 The war is going on in Russia, right? Russian cities are destroyed, right? Russians are running away from the war wherever they can, right? Ukr is gonna lose its populace, forget the war. They're incapable of anything. Total duds who have been mooching off Russia forever and taking orders from Moscow forever too. What were they thinking? Or wait, but they can't think.

@donaldtrumplover2254 Not sure what's that "impossible" that they've pulled off. Their cities are in ruin, their populace is running away wherever they can, they're gonna lose their ppl before they know it. They came begging to Israel to please sell them the Iron Dome, the Israel whose guts they hate w/a passion. They have no weapons b/c it looks like the US is talking a mouthful but doing not a bit to help them. Europe the same. I guess they're waiting for them to be demolished altogether and then maybe swoop down for the spoils. Ukr ppl are incapable of pretty much anything. They were and still are a Russian province w/o any autonomy and I am guessing that too ruined them. Like former British colonies. So many years out and still no more than obedient vassals.

@msimon6808 Look, I don't know how wiki knows that. i personally don't trust them; they get things wrong that I know for sure. For instance, they call Palestine a country/state. Enough said. But anyway, as I said before, they might've had production lines, it's possible, but those were not their own, they were Russian, and the expertise came from Russia. All the developments were centered in Russia, specifically Moscow. They prolly had local engineers, for plants can't function w/o those, i am guessing, like maintenance etc. That's the point of having an empire, which is what Russia was. Ukr did have a few universities which turned out graduates who prolly were somewhat educated, at their skimpy level, and Russia could send some to work there as well. Russia itself wasn't anywhere near advanced except in weaponry and the space program., and Ukr, along w/their other possessions, was their obedient vassal.

I have no idea what happened in Afghanistan,, what Russia did or didn't do there, or what their goals were either. W/regards to Ukr, Ukr doesn't stand a chance against Russia. It has no weapons, no money, no expertise, nothing at all to counter them. Ukr is their backwater province, not an independent country in the first place, so I am not even sure what they want now but whatever it is, they won't get it.

@AL-rf2fr It may have all the resources but it doesn't make it any less of a backwater Russia province and certainly no resources will help it win the war. Europe doesn't seem to be willing to bail them out, resources or not.

@timthorson52 In the Soviet days, Ukr was a backwater Russian province, indistinguishable from Russia itself. There was nothing unique about it. They are absolutely Russified and didn't even speak their language. It was suppressed. They spoke Russian only, and were considered 2nd class citizens by pretty much everybody. Even Russian provinces deemed them inferior, let alone the capitals. I believe Ukr was part of Russia since the middle ages or earlier. So much for their uniqueness.

@timthorson52 the Polish-Lithuanian confederation, if it included part of Ukr, only included its western part, which was part of Poland before the Bolsheviks grabbed it. So that portion may be a bit different although during the soviet time, they were integrated just fine. The soviets suppressed everything they could suppress and were good at it. I don't know what they could think about their identity if they're completely dependent on Moscow, take orders from them, are supplied by them b/c they have nothing of their own, speak their language b/c they don't have their own, so they can think they're all #1 but that's their take only.

@timthorson52 I don't know what you're talking about. Russia wasn't in control of Ukr since the medieval times? I was born in Moscow, Russia, and remember from my own experience that Russia was in control of every single thing, all of its satellites including Ukr. Russian troops sat everywhere. They didn't fight each other b/c there was no need, but if any one province had rebelled, it would've been crushed in a matter of minutes. Even their European satellites , like Hungary, Poland, etc were dealt with in a speedy fashion when they attempted dissent. it was a complete and absolute domination. I don't know about now, i am no longer there, but I am guessing that Ukr is trying to get away, well, no such luck. It's being duly punished.
