I knew it, St Louis had to be on this list. I left in 1990 and had never gave the place a second thought until I had to go back to take care of my mom for 15 months.(this is going to be long) l left because I didn't see a future there, the city had been declining since the mid 80s. There was and still alot of corruption in the police and politics, they allowed certain areas to decline so they could blight it. They didn't allow any locals to buy any of the small plots of land in hopes a big company would come in a buy the whole thing. The low pay rate keeps the poor people poor and the wealthy rich. They also refuses to move into the 21st century, I have family who still lives there they didn't start using debt cards with chips until a year an a half ago. And that was only because the biggest supermarket chain in the city got hacked and finally bought the new machines. Almost 65 percent of the poor don't even have a bank account, they pay cash or get one of those debt cards you put money on. The poor people who live there don't see anyway out, they don't make enough money to leave. The business owners see the poor as a cheap labor. Until a few years ago the minimum pay rate was 7.25 an hour. I'm not talking buger joints I'm talking factories and warehouses. I saw my chance in 1990 and I went over the wall, you don't leave St Louis, you escape from St Louis.
